In August 2008, in the framework of Project "Support to establishing a comprehensive system of social services for young drug users", UNFPA is providing national partners (217 Social Services for intravenous drug users) with socio-medical care related equipment (sterile cotton, disinfectants, bandage, sterile syringes, sterile gloves, etc.) in order to support and improve services provided by Social Services for intravenous drug users.

On the 7th of August 2008 by initiative of the UNFPA a round table meeting "Universities of third Age: older generation in the modern information environment" (U3A) was held in the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy of Ukraine. It was organized under the UNFPA project UKR1P41A "Supporting the Implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in Ukraine". The main purpose of the round table was to discuss the development of U3A programme in Ukraine in order to increase social activity and communication of older people, improve their health and physical activity, as well as provide lifelong education.
World Population Day 2008 (11-07-2008, 00:11)
UNFPA focuses on the importance of family planning as a benefit to good health and national development. On 10th of July the UNFPA Country Office in Ukraine held a press conference in the premises of the "Ukrainskiy Chas" press centre in Kyiv on the occasion of the World Population Day 2008. The theme of this year's World Population Day was Family Planning.

On 10-14 June 2008, the UNFPA Country Director for Ukraine, Ms. Marlene Francois Lays made her first visit to the UNFPA Country Office in Ukraine. The purpose of Ms Lays’ visit was to familiarize with the implementation of the UNFPA country programme for Ukraine for 2006-2010 and to meet with the representatives of the UNFPA partner organizations in Ukraine, including the Ministry of Health, the State Statistics Committee, the Institute of Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences and the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine.
Workshop “Active and Healthy Longevity” in Mykolaiv on 12-14 May, 2008 (27-05-2008, 09:08)
The first in a series of three training workshop "Active and Healthy Longevity" for older volunteers from the southern regions of Ukraine was conducted in the city of Mykolaiv on 12-14 May 2008. The workshop was organized under the UNFPA project UKR1P41A "Supporting the Implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in Ukraine". A total of 28 older volunteers representing Mykolaiv region and the Autonomuos Republic of Crimea attended the workshop.
UNFPA Youth Advisory Panel Meeting in Kharkhiv on April 14-15, 2008 (20-05-2008, 12:46)
On April 14-15 2008, a meeting of the UNFPA Youth Advisory Panel was held in Kharkhiv National Economic University, Kharkhiv. The YAP task consists of backing UNFPA in coordination of activities targeted at young people and making proposals on future events. At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Borys M. Vornyk, UNFPA Assistant Representative, communicated with YAP members on the UNFPA Youth Work Strategy and emphasized significance of UNFPA cooperation with the youth. Further discussions were facilitated by YAP Chair Rustam Logay, a student of the State Vital Activity Safety University of Lviv.
