On 31 August – 2 September, a meeting was hosted in Minsk, Belarus by the United Nations Population Fund, aimed to identify good examples and share information and lessons learned to end gender-based violence and advance maternal health.
Statement on the Occasion of World Population Day 2009 Thoraya Ahmed Obaid Executive Director of United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA World Population Day(11-07-2009, 14:30) Today, as we commemorate World Population Day, the global financial and economic crisis threatens to reverse hard-won gains in education and health in developing countries. Among those hardest hit are women and girls. This is why the theme of this year's World Population Day focuses on investing in women. Even before the crisis, women and girls represented the majority of the world's poor. Now they are falling deeper into poverty and face increased health risks, especially if they are pregnant.

Seminar on implementation of the CEDAW and OP CEDAW, Kyiv, 10 June 2009(11-06-2009, 15:47) Training seminar on implementation of the CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of all forms of discrimination against women) and OP CEDAW (Optional Protocol of this Convention) main principles was held in Kyiv on 10 June 2009, in the conference-hall of the National Academy of Sciences. The seminar was organized by UNFPA Country Office in Ukraine in collaboration with the NGO "Women's Information Consultative Center" and the Ministry of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sports within the framework of the UNFPA-funded project "Developing national capacity to reduce discrimination and gender-based violence".
