Within the collaboration framework between UNFPA CO in Ukraine and the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and religious organizations, during 27 September – 2 October 2009, UNFPA has organized in Odessa city a workshop “Input of Churches to address the HIV epidemics: counseling aspect”.

The workshop was organized and conducted by UNFPA CO in Ukraine and was attended by 22 representatives of 6 religious confessions.  During the workshop the participants discussed the issue around HIV-infection for society and for Churches, medical and religious approaches to sexual way of HIV transmission, attitude of the world and Churches towards HIV-infection and PLWHA, as well as ethical aspects of counseling, etc.

During practical sessions, the participants have gained knowledge about medical-biological characteristics and peculiarities of HIV-infection and main aspects of HIV counseling, as well as obtained information and skills on counseling algorithms, reviewed special situations that can arise during counseling.
